Stuart Armstrong Weighs Sheffield Wednesday Return after Free Agency Period

Stuart Armstrong

Stuart Armstrong remains without a club two months after his short spell at Sheffield Wednesday came to an end. The experienced Scotland international is maintaining fitness on his own while evaluating options for the new campaign. Reports in the Scottish press indicate that Wednesday are considering bringing him back to Hillsborough as they navigate a transfer embargo that limits recruitment to free agents.

The Owls view Armstrong as a cost-effective addition who can offer leadership and creativity in central midfield. With other Championship teams such as Wrexham keeping tabs on his situation, the thirty-three-year-old is expected to make a decision once preseason training begins in early July.

Armstrong brings a proven engine and a knack for late surges into the box, traits that earned him praise during earlier stints with Southampton and Celtic. A reunion with manager Danny Rohl could provide stability for a squad facing potential departures and lingering financial uncertainty.

The coming weeks will reveal whether Armstrong chooses familiarity at Hillsborough or seeks a fresh challenge elsewhere. Either way, his decision is likely to influence midfield plans across the Championship, given his availability on a free transfer.
